WHY IT MATTERS
FOOD INSECURITY
In Williamson County, families are struggling to access fresh, healthy food. At the same time, the land is often depleted and underutilized.
82,971 residents experience food insecurity in Williamson County. Of those, over 27,000 are children and more than 11,900 are older adults.
3,354 individuals in the Taylor community are food insecure, this includes 750 children and 507 older adults (60+ years).
LOSS OF FARMLAND
Over the past two decades, Williamson County lost 35% of its agricultural land. Between 2017 and 2022 alone, the county lost more than 179,000 acres, marking the steepest decline in county history.
Of the roughly 380,000 acres of farmland that remain in Williamson County, only 0.3% of agricultural land is devoted to fruits and vegetables. By contrast, 37% — more than one-third — of the land is devoted to uses unsuitable for human consumption. (Full Williamson County 2025 Needs Assessment by Central Texas Foodbank)
It is our hope to make a difference in these families lives and our community – one seed, one farm, one family at a time.
